The human sexual response cycle is a model that describes the physical and emotional changes that occur in the body during sexual activity. It consists of four main stages: excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution.

Here are the 4 main stages:

  1. Excitement stage:

The excitement stage is the first stage of the sexual response cycle and is characterized by an increase in heart rate, blood flow, and muscle tension. During this stage, the body begins to prepare for sexual activity by releasing hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline, which cause the heart rate to increase, the blood vessels to dilate. The genitals also become engorged with blood, resulting in an erection for men and an increase in vaginal lubrication for women. This stage can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours and is usually marked by a feeling of sexual anticipation and excitement.

  2. Plateau stage:

The plateau stage is the second stage of the sexual response cycle, and it is characterized by a continuation of the physical changes that began in the excitement stage. During this stage, the body reaches a level of sexual excitement that is just short of orgasm. The heart rate and blood pressure continue to increase, and the muscles throughout the body become even more tense. The genitals continue to swell. This stage can last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes and is usually marked by a feeling of intense pleasure and sexual excitement.

  3. Orgasm stage:

The orgasm stage is the third stage of the sexual response cycle and is characterized by a series of rhythmic contractions of the muscles in the pelvic area, as well as a release of tension and a feeling of pleasure and release. For men, this stage is marked by ejaculation, and for women, it is marked by contractions of the vaginal muscles. Orgasm is usually accompanied by intense physical and emotional sensations and can last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes.

  4. Resolution stage:

The resolution stage is the final stage of the sexual response cycle and is characterized by a return to the body’s normal, pre-arousal state. During this stage, the heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension all return to normal, and the genitals return to their non-aroused state. This stage can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours and is usually marked by a feeling of contentment and relaxation.

It’s important to note that the sexual response cycle is not a linear process and can vary from person to person and from experience to experience. Some people may experience all four stages in a single sexual encounter, while others may not experience all four stages, or may experience them in a different order.

Additionally, the sexual response cycle can be affected by many factors such as age, overall health, medications, emotions, and relationship dynamics. Factors such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and relationship issues can have a negative impact on sexual function, so it’s important to address these issues if they’re impacting your sexual experiences.

Couples may look to enhance the pleasure they are experiencing.  Low Intensity shockwave therapy can play a role in increasing performance for both men and womenEnhanced Wellness Living offers GAINSWave treatments for men and FemiWave for women provided by our Nurse Practitioners, Kelly Engelmann, Owner and Founder of Enhanced Wellness Living, and Amanda Carter.

Why SHOCKWAVE Therapy At Enhanced Wellness Living Is an Excellent ED Treatment Option

While every ED treatment has pros and cons, GAINSWave therapy at Enhanced Wellness Living with Nurse Practitioner Kelly Engelmann and Amanda Carter sets itself apart from other treatment options. Essentially, shockwave therapy is a non-invasive, long-lasting treatment option that doesn’t require surgery.

Instead, the treatment is painless and convenient. During treatment, NP Kelly Engelmann or NP Amanda Carter will use high-frequency, low-intensity sounds to remove micro-plaque, generate new blood vessel growth, and increase blood flow to the penis. After a few sessions, the treatment should be effective and long-lasting, with successful results often lasting for around two years.

Alongside being long-lasting, GAINSWave therapy doesn’t come with all the unpleasant side effects of many other treatments and is available to far more men who take other medications or have preexisting conditions. Due to the lack of side effects, GAINSWave therapy gives many more men the chance to achieve stronger, longer-lasting erections without having to undergo invasive surgery. GAINSWave therapy also has a 75% success rate, meaning it’s often a variable treatment for men wanting to improve their erections without having to deal with short-term solutions or dangerous side effects.
