The InBody Body Composition Analysis breaks down the 4 components that make up our bodies: water, protein, minerals, and fat and provides a full representation of our health picture. An InBody analysis accurately depicts changes in fat mass, muscle mass, and body fat percentage, rather than just weight loss and weight gain. InBody measures your progress as you gain muscle and lose fat! This is a more accurate way of looking at your overall health and helping you meet your wellness goals. Measuring weight alone does not give any indication of overall health and wellness.
Let’s get into a little greater detail on what the Inbody scan is measuring and telling you. We know that Inbody measures your percentage of body fat, skeletal muscle mass, ideal body weight, calories that should be consumed per day, and the amount of muscle in each body segment but what does this all mean? Let’s break it down! The Muscle-Fat Analysis category on the printed InBody report will show weight, skeletal muscle mass, and body fat mass. The Obesity Analysis will show results in BMI (Body Mass Index) and Body Fat Percentage. Body Mass Index is a height to weight ratio and usually quite inaccurate. Someone could have a high BMI but very muscular, so you must take into account the body fat percentage in relation to the BMI. For all these specific categories on the InBody reports, know that there are guidelines/ranges that depend on gender and age. The segmental lean analysis is very interesting because it can show you if there’s any injury or inflammation in the body. What a helpful tool to have at our fingertips! Moving on to the Body fat lean mass category, this will give you specific guidelines on how to get to your ideal body weight goals. Again, there are guidelines and ranges for men and women, this is not a one size fits all kind of report. It’s very personalized just for you!
Body composition can affect your overall health in a number of ways that can be related to things such as heart disease, high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, back pain, certain types of cancer, estrogen and hormone-related problems, fatigue, sleep apnea, stroke, high cholesterol, diabetes, respiratory problems. kidney disorders, gallbladder disorders, and osteoarthritis.
