What is Functional Medicine anyways? You may have heard it called Root Cause Medicine, Holistic Health, Integrative Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine.
Functional Medicine is the practice of looking at you as a whole, your health throughout your entire life, understanding and eradicating the root cause of your symptoms, and creating a lifestyle of wellness, energy, and longevity.
At Enhanced Wellness Living we look at medicine from a different perspective. In Functional Medicine we treat the person, rather than the disease.
We look at you as a whole, and your health throughout your entire life, to understand and eradicate the root cause of your symptoms and to create a lifestyle of wellness, energy, and longevity.
Family Nurse Practitioner and Functional Medicine Practitioner, Kelly Engelmann, and the EWL team partner with you to develop a personalized individual Wellness Plan to create sustainable lifestyle habits for you to Live Life Well!
We believe that in order to achieve your health and wellness goals your Wellness Plan must be in congruence with your beliefs and values.
With our support throughout your Wellness Journey, you will become intuitive in understanding your body’s needs, what fuels you versus what feeds discomfort and disease, and you will be empowered to take control of your health and life.
Enhanced Wellness Living is a pioneer in Functional Medicine. We provide a personalized evaluation with education and support through a revolutionary, integrative, food-first approach to develop a foundation of health, vitality, and longevity for individuals and families.
In Functional Medicine we…
focus on the person and their experience, rather than the disease or diagnosis
seek to understand and eliminate the root cause symptoms and disease
look at each individual, their history, lifestyle, and environment
cultivate balance-congruence in your beliefs, values, and goals
provide individualized care, education, and empowerment
With years of experience in healthcare, a dedication to research, and development of a food first approach to healing her patients, Kelly Engelmann, Nurse Practitioner and Functional Medicine Practitioner, founded Enhanced Wellness Living in 2004.
The EWL Family Real Patients, Real Stories FAQ’s
At Enhanced Wellness Living we define Wellness as the heightened ability to protect yourself from physical, emotional, and environmental stressors. Wellness takes intention, purpose, effort, and planning-it’s worth the effort that it takes!
A few of the most important steps you can take in promoting wellness and protecting your health are ensuring you have clean food, clean air, and clean water.
Following our food-first principle, we consume fresh, unprocessed foods, purchasing organic and farmed raised when appropriate. We encourage the usage of high-quality water filters in the home- we love our Berkey, and avoiding plastic water bottles. For fresh air indoors we use AirOasis air purifications in clinic and at home.
We also focus on our Foundations of Wellness…
Detox–aka Metabolic Reset. While your body naturally detoxes each day, we will reduce your exposure to inflammatory foods, decrease your toxic burden, and use supplementation and foods that fuel your body to give your body an opportunity to reset.
Nutrition– The food we eat can either be the most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison. We use food to feed health, promote healing, and prevent disease. A diet of whole, farm-to-plate foods fuel weight loss (better body composition), improved sleep, hormone balance, sexual function, physical appearance, overall wellness, mental health, and longevity!
Movement–While each of us needs different types of exercise, we all need at least 30 minutes of consecutive movement a day. Exercise supports the body’s natural detoxification process, increases metabolism, reduces stress, promotes energy, improves sleep, and supports mental health. Try anything you enjoy-a brisk walk, biking, hiking, dancing, yoga, swimming, Tai Chi, Pilates, golf…the possibilities are limitless!
Hormones–Reducing inflammation, uncovering and eliminating food intolerances, nutrition and hydration, using high-quality supplementation, and in-depth testing and education on your lab work and InBody metrics support hormone balancing
Mindset–Taking even 3 minutes a day to focus on self-care can make a huge impact on our lives. Reducing stress, resting and adequate sleep, and cultivating gratitude and joy all lend in creating a mindset of wellness.Nurse Practitioner Kelly Engelmann and our Enhanced Wellness Living team have been at the forefront of Functional Medicine for over 15 years and brought Functional Medicine to Mississippi. Through continuing education, innovation, and collaboration we celebrate the Functional Medicine community!
